When to splurge or save for your living room
When we design for clients, and for ourselves, we take a “high-low” approach to sourcing products. We invest in items, all of exceptional quality, but at varying price points so our clients can fully furnish and decorate their spaces within budget.
Here’s where we recommend splurging and saving for your living room:
Splurge
Sectional or sofas
These primary pieces for seating will get a lot of use. We recommend investing in a sectional or sofas that are comfortable, appropriately sized, and upholstered in a fabric that’s suitable for your lifestyle.
Crypton upholstery is a great, stain resistant finish that we use on most of our custom upholstery.
Accent chairs
Our clients can justify investing in high-quality accent chairs, because of the traffic they’ll get and because of the impact a stylish piece can make.
Entertainment centers/Consoles
If you don’t have a built-in unit, investing in a sturdy entertainment center or console is well worth it. You want a large piece that will withstand bumps over time and that will be sturdy enough to support a TV, heavy decor, and storage.
Chandeliers
Chandeliers can make the room, so we recommend spending more on a statement piece that provides the style and quality lighting.
Save
Rug
With the exception of getting a custom work of art or needing a large rug to fit a grand living room, rugs are usually a good place to save.
Coffee tables and end tables
We usually recommend saving on coffee tables, end tables, and other accent pieces. They’re easy to upgrade if you find a piece you want to invest in after doing most of your decorating.
Accessories and decor
Again, with the exception of works of art, we recommend saving on accessories and decor. It’s always fun to keep the project going and add to your accessories and decor over time!
