How to choose the right size rug for every room
Bathroom
We like to use bath runners with double vanities. The longer runners create a more subtle and seamless look.
Powder baths
A 2’ x 3’ rug can add a lot of style to a small powder bath. If you love authentic Turkish rugs, but you don’t love the price tag, a 2’ x 3’ rug is a good entry point.
Bedroom
It’s ok if the rug under your bed doesn’t extend to your nightstands.
For Queen sized beds, we typically use an 8’ x 10’ rug.
For King sized beds, we typically use a 9’ x 12’ rug.
Dining room
To determine the size rug you need in your dining room, start by measuring the length of your dining room table.
The entire dining table and all of the chairs should fit on the rug with about 12” of space on each side.
For example, a dining table that is 8’ long will likely need a rug that is 10’ long, or 8’ x 10’.
Kitchen
If you don’t want to invest in a long runner for the kitchen, we recommend saving money and using smaller rugs just to provide cushion at the sink.
If these smaller rugs are unsightly, you can easily hide them when you want to.
Living room
A good rule to follow for the living room is to have the front legs or ends of each piece of furniture on the rug.
To select a rug size for the living room, you should layout your furniture – in the room or on a floor plan drawing – and then draw the best rug size.
Office
For the office, you should have about 12” – 24” of space around all sides of the office desk, chair, and any accent chairs.
